A: Toys: We do not allow personal toys into The Bone Adventure playgroups. The toys we use in the facility are all the same to prevent any arguments over the “cool/different” toy. We hope you understand!
A: Bedding: We have plenty of beds and bedding at both locations to make your dog is nice and cozy. Both locations have an industrial washer and dryer to ensure cleanliness and sanitization of our bedding. We strongly recommend you keep any bedding at home. The Bone Adventure is not liable for any items that might be worn, torn, or lost.
A: We feed each dog individually in our doggie dens. We conveniently offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day for our daycare and boarding dogs. Each dog that gets fed with us is entered into our system and their specific instructions are printed for our trained feeder (a senior Dog Handler) to create their specific meal.
We encourage you bring your dog’s food to keep them on a diet they are accustomed to. Both of our locations have refrigerator/freezer and microwave capabilities. If you forget your pup’s food, we have our in-house food, Natural Balance Dry and Natural Balance Wet food, available for purchase at $5 per meal. We also sell a variety of Just Food for Dogs frozen and packaged meals that are available at both locations.
The Bone Adventure does not have communal or in-house treats. Any treats you would like to give to your dog must be provided by the client.
A: Anywhere they want! Most dogs feel comfortable going outside on our K9 grass that we have at both locations. If they happen to go inside our facility, we have dog-safe products to ensure the cleanliness and sanitization of our facilities.
A: We will still require your dog to receive a Bordetella booster every 6 months to reduce the transmission of Kennel Cough. While the Bordetella does not 100% prevent Kennel Cough, the 6-month booster is the best chance of preventing it.
A: Kennel Cough is a highly contagious respiratory infection that is spread through airborne droplets, direct contact, or contaminated surfaces. Like the common cold in humans, Kennel Cough can be caused by various viruses and bacteria. Kennel Cough is commonly characterized by a distinct hacking cough. Along with the hacking, similar symptoms include gagging/retching, lethargy, runny nose or eyes.
The Bone Adventure prides itself in our sanitizing procedures. Both inside facilities are sprayed every hour with air sanitizing spray. Our water buckets are refilled with fresh water every 30 minutes to an hour. We also wash and sanitize our water buckets twice a day. Our facilities are sanitized daily by our maintenance team. They specialize and clean our facility with top rated, dog-safe products to ensure a safe and sanitized environment for all.
A: While barking can be a natural by-product when dogs get together, the Bone Adventure wants to keep our neighbors happy, and we do want to discourage continuous barking. We make every effort to keep the noise level under control. Your dog will not need to bark out of neglect. However, we will need to control the barking level even if it is all fun. This means we will tell your dog “No Barking!” or “Quiet/settle down!” If the barking persists in the yard, we will use a squirt bottle (filled with water) that we will spray on the pup’s chest, torso, or hind legs, to deter the barking following the “No barking” commands. The water spray is not continuous but used more as a reset for the dogs to grab the dog’s attention.
If your dog is an incessant barker, it may be necessary to use a Citronella No Bark Collar and place the pup on a time out in one of our doggie dens or hotel rooms. Citronella is a harmless spray; the collar reacts to the dogs barking. The spray is deployed when the dog is barking, and conditions your dog to stop barking. We advise you to use the “No Bark” command outside of the Bone if your pup tends to bark. We appreciate your effort in working with this command outside of The Bone!
A: While we take every effort to avoid it, injuries are inevitable in a dog daycare environment. Dogs play with their teeth, grab each other by the neck, tail, and paws. Nicks, scrapes, and occasional puncture are going to happen. These accidents happen all the time. The Bone Adventure has a strict supervision policy, and your dog will always be in the company of one of our trained employees.
Other risks may include overstimulation and stress, exposure to illness, and exhaustion. The Bone Adventure tries its best to limit potential illnesses through our sanitization protocols. Both of our facilities have a variety of areas for downtime for all the dogs in our care. Our staff is trained to supervise the dog’s behavior and their play. Any dog showing signs of anxiety and exhaustion are monitored closely for follow up breaks.
A: While there are always scuffles that normally occur between dogs, dog fights are not a regular occurrence at The Bone Adventure. You may ask, “how are the dogs not fighting?!” The factors that make this a neutral and safe environment are simpler than you may think. First, we do not allow any dog personal items in our yards (leashes, toys, or food). Second, the owners are not present. Many dogs have possessive tendencies when their humans are in proximity to them. Not having their owner(s) around takes away the need for possessiveness. Third, and most importantly, all of our dogs enrolled in daycare and boarding are carefully screened prior to admittance (the temperament/ interview!).
A: The temperament test/ interview is a two-hour process for your dog. During the two hours, our front staff checks that your pup has all their required vaccines up to date. Once we verify the vaccines are up to date, our staff brings your pup into their respected interview area. Our Back End Supervisor proceeds to introduce your pup to the new area and simultaneously introduce your dog to the dogs we have with us for the day. Our Back End Supervisors are trained to understand dog behavior and body language; they use this knowledge to appropriately introduce the dogs that will match your dog’s behavior and energy.
After the two-hour test, our supervisors will give you a run down on how your dog did. This is the time for our staff to let you know the behaviors we saw your dog display as well as give you any recommendations to ensure your dog thrives at our daycare. Once the temperament test is over, you are welcome to bring your dog back any time, to either of our locations!
A: Prior to booking a temperament test, your dog:
- Must be 4 months old, or older, and have completed all rounds of their puppy vaccines.
- Must be current on all required vaccinations:
- Bordetella every 6 months
- Distemper (DHPP/DA2PP/DHLPP) 1 or every 3 years
- Fecal Exam- that has been tested for Giardia Elisa and Ova and Parasite (we require this annually and we do need to see the results)
- Rabies Vaccination- 1 or every 3 years.
- Male dogs must be neutered by 6 months of age, but we will make exceptions up to the 1-year age if your vet recommends waiting. This exception will be closely monitored by our staff to ensure the safety of the dogs.
- Female Dogs must be spayed by the 6-month mark. We will make an exception if your vet recommends waiting for their first heat to occur. Once she goes into heat, we will not allow your dog back until they are spayed.
A:
- Daycare helps promote good mental and physical health through exercise and socialization. This also helps reinforce good socialization skills when your dog is out in public with you.
- Daycare can help prevent destructive behavior stemming from boredom and loneliness.
- Daycare can help relieve separation anxiety.
- For People: Daycare allows owners to pursue their interests and career objectives freely, without the guilt associated with leaving their dog unattended for hours at a time.
- Daycare (and boarding) gives owners peace of mind knowing that their dog is being cared for in a safe and supervised environment.
A: Yes, we are! Our facilities are conveniently open 365 days a year, rain or shine! Our hours of operation are 6:30 am to 8pm
Please note- we do charge an extra $5 for daycare on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day
A: If you cannot make it by closing time, please give us a call as soon as you are able to. We would simply need to add your dog to the boarding list and give your dog dinner, if they still need some for the night.
A: A half day of daycare is four hours or less from whatever time you drop off your dog. We try not to be sticklers about going over the half day timeframe, if you go over our 10-minute grace window we will automatically adjust your dog’s stay to a full day.
A: Yes, we can feed your dog for any meal while they are with us! Please just let our front staff at drop off know which meal you will be providing, and we will make sure your dog gets fed for their designated feeding time. If you would like for us to feed your dog our in-house food, we are happy to! We do charge $5 per meal for our in-house Natural Balance Lamb Formula food. Please let us know the portions at drop off.
A: There are a few ways to check in on your dog while they are in our care:
-
- You may log on to your WatchMeGrow app to watch your dog live in action.
- Email info@theboneadventure.com to request for an update. Please note that our managers consistently review their emails between the hours of 8 am to 4pm PST.
- Call the location your dog is staying to get an update on how they are doing.
- You may request a daily update when you pick up your dog from our facilities.
A: It depends! Oftentimes, we work swiftly, and you will be in and out within a minute. However, there are peak pick-up and drop-off times which you may have to wait a few minutes to get your dog in and out of our facilities. We ask you to please give yourself enough time and plan accordingly for any waiting time. We appreciate you working with us!
A: For our daycare services, you do not need an appointment. We work on a walk-in basis for dogs who have passed their temperament test.
A: The Bone Adventure highly recommends your dog to be socialized prior to coming to our daycare. We recommend socializing with family dogs, neighborhood dogs, trying your dog at the Dog Beach, or the dog park. We also recommend that your dog has basic training and a good recall.
The first couple visits at daycare can be overwhelming. While some dogs are naturally social, some might need a few visits before they are comfortable with us. This isn’t because of neglect from us; it just means your dog needs more exposure with different people and environments.
A: We work similar to a hotel with our departure out time
-
- Pick up by 11am (or earlier) for no additional daycare charge.
- Pick up after 11am will be subject to a daycare charge: 11am-3pm pick up will add an additional $42 charge per dog. 3pm- 8pm pick up will add an additional $65 daycare charge per dog.
- Pick up by 11am (or earlier) for no additional daycare charge.
If your dog has a scheduled departure day bath, please pick up your dog at the out time you requested.
A: For boarding, please fill out our Boarding Check in sheet. On top of filling out the Boarding Check in sheet, our staff will check in your dog in for every visit. During the check-in, they will confirm the feeding instructions and the medication instructions (if applicable.).
A: For Bone Home- you have the option to have your dog sleep in a hotel room. We typically have your dog sleeping with another pup, but if you know your dog prefers a private room, please let us know. Hotel rooms are on a first come, first serve basis. For those who need human attention for sleeping, the dogs will have the option to sleep in the bedroom with our overnighter and other dogs as well.
For Bone Backyard- we prefer dogs to sleep in a slumber party style in our Brown Room. If your dog prefers a private room, we do have our doggy dens that are available on a first come, first serve basis.
A: We recommend you bring your dog at the earliest convenience. You may drop off as early as 6:30am on the drop off date. The latest we recommend you drop off your dog would be no later than 7:30pm.
Please note that we charge a flat rate for the first night. Like a hotel, the check-in time does not adjust the flat rate. We recommend you drop off your dog at the earliest convenience to help get your dog’s wiggles out.
A: Here at Bone Adventure, we provide cage free boarding for all of our wonderful dogs. The boarding dogs are integrated with the daycare dogs throughout the day. Here, they are outside in a supervised play group, and we ensure they get the exercise and rest time they need.
Our boarding dogs get fed as early as 7:30am for breakfast, lunchtime for all the dogs starts at 12pm, and dinner starts at 4pm.
The dogs are typically brought in for the night around 7pm so they can settle in for the night. At this time, we put dogs in their assigned rooms for the night.
A: The best way to prepare your pup for overnight boarding at any facility is to get them comfortable! We recommend you familiarize the dogs with the staff and environment. We advise you, if you plan on boarding your dog with us at any given time, allow them to familiarize with us first through daycare sessions prior to the eventual boarding stay.
A: Prior to the end of your package, we do send a spreadsheet that accounts for all of your dog’s visits since the purchase of their first daycare pass. This is known as a statement. Our statements team will send you an updated spreadsheet that accounts for all of your dog’s visits to the Bone. If you are not sure of the balance of your dog’s package, please request for a statement from our staff members. The statement will give the most accurate number of days.
A: We do not have a specific boarding package at this time. However, if you purchased one of our daycare packages, the package covers the day portion overnight. You will be charged a discounted nightly upcharge.
A: We typically recommend purchasing a package only if you are planning on also using us for daycare. However, depending on the days you plan on boarding, purchasing a package might be a more cost-effective option. Please refer to our price sheet to see the savings between our package and non-package options.
A: Yes, you may use your package for the half day of daycare. We will just take half a day off your pass.
A: We do offer 3 tiers of daycare passes- the 10-day pass, 20-day pass, and Full Time Pass (22 days). The 10 day and the 20-day pass does have a six-month expiration from the time of purchase. If you plan on coming in for daycare within the 6-month span, these might be the best bang for your buck.
The Full Time Pass consists of 22 days. This pass must be used within 30 days of purchase, and the days do not roll over. If you plan on bringing your dog in at least 5 times a week, this will be the best option for your dog.
A: The daycare packages are days bought in bulk. Once you purchase a pass and your dog comes in for daycare, our staff will check your dog in for daycare and automatically use your package for the day. At check out, either a half day or a full day will be removed from your pass.
A: We try not to be sticklers, but we hope you understand our need to stick to our policies regarding charges related to pickup times.
